Is it just me, or do some people have too much time on their hands?
Lindsay Miller sure does- she just won an appeal to wear a colander (a type of pot used for cooking noodles) on her head to take her drivers license photo. Incensed by what she saw as unfair treatment for non-religious people, Miller demanded she be allowed to wear the colander as part of her beliefs system.
Miller’s lawyer is non other than the American Humanist Association, a name which should ring familiar for our readers. “If people are given the right to wear religious garments in government ID photos, then this must extend to people who follow the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.” Miller’s lawyer said, a reference to her religion of ‘Pastafarianism.’
While I’m sure many of you find this crusade insulting, I’m actually happy for the American Humanist Association in this case. Let them spend their time and money on utterly ridiculous crusades and see how seriously people take them.
As for Lindsay; if you ever decide to take faith seriously let us know, we’d be happy to speak with you. Until then, I have some cookware you can borrow.
