Ronda Rousey is a famous mixed martial artist and is the first and current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, as well as the former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Needless to say, this is one girl you don’t want to mess with! Now, she’s sending an even more powerful message by turning down a spot with Playboy.
Rousey told New York Daily News:
“No one should be able to see my cash and prizes for $5, okay, I don’t care how much money they gave me.”
It’s no secret that we live in a society that’s obsessed with fame, fortune, and their public image. Thousands of celebrities have shed some layers in order to make a few extra bucks, but the 26-year old fighter declared that you’ll never find her on any revealing Playboy magazine — because she won’t take off her clothes — no matter the price.
Unlike other fighters, Rousey has only accepted tasteful magazine shoots, such as last year’s ESPN The Magazine’s The Body Issue, where she expressed, “I felt like it was a good way to promote myself and women’s MMA. It wasn’t like Playboy.”
It’s refreshing to see that Rousey isn’t afraid of “unpopularity” when it comes to upholding her God-given dignity and what she chooses to stand for. Women were never created to be simply sold and used for profit. No amount of money is worth giving away your dignity.
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30
