It’s hard to believe, but the 2021-22 season is only a few weeks away. In fact, the USA Today apologized for publishing a story that had the 2021-22 All-Star Game as early as this upcoming February, as the NBA has yet to announce the start date. Which means that the current crop of NBA All-Stars have just a few weeks to solidify their chances of making the All-Star team for the first time, and win the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards. For the sake of this piece we decided to focus on frontcourt players who stand the best chance of making the cut to the All-Star Game, and we’ve selected four players who we think have a good shot.
Every year, the NBA All-Star game gets bigger and better, and this year, the game will be played inside the famed Toyota Center in Houston. The game, which will feature the best frontcourt players in the game, is sure to be an entertaining one. Here are four players that should receive the most votes for the NBA All-Star Game 2021-22.
As the NBA All-Star Game approaches, the league is only about one year away from having a new All-Star Game format. The current format has been in place since the 1984-85 season, and the All-Star Game has been a regular event on the NBA schedule ever since. The current format has a team of Eastern Conference All-Stars face a team of Western Conference All-Stars in a single-elimination tournament from February 14-16. The team with the best record from the two games will be crowned the league’s All-Star Game champion.
With the start of a new NBA season approaching, fans are eager to see whether their favorite big men will finally be selected an All-Star. In the NBA, there are many great big men who have made and will continue to make the All-Star squad. However, this does not rule out the possibility of some fresh blood.
Given their skill and increasing popularity, the following players may make their first All-Star squad in 2021-22.
Deandre Ayton (#4)
Let’s face it: Deandre Ayton was somewhat overshadowed as the top talent in the 2018 draft class by Luka Doncic. Ayton was the first selection, and he’s had a great career thus far. That young Slovenian guard, on the other hand, has been the talk of the town. Things changed in the 2020-21 NBA season, when the Phoenix Suns not only clinched the second seed, but also advanced to the NBA Finals.
Ayton was outstanding throughout the Suns’ playoff run. He held his own against Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers, outplayed league MVP Nikola Jokic, mistreated the Los Angeles Clippers, and earned the Milwaukee Bucks’ respect. During this time, Ayton established himself as a key member of the Suns’ foundation.
Ayton will gain not just momentum for the next season, but also the adoration of the fans and the media, thanks to his playoff performance. When people speak about the Suns now, they don’t simply talk about Chris Paul and Devin Booker. For the foreseeable future, Ayton will be associated with the club and its achievements. It might all begin with him being selected to the NBA All-Star team in the 2021-22 season.
John Collins is number three.
Since his arrival in the league in 2017, John Collins has been putting in work. Everyone has been yapping about Collins now that the Atlanta Hawks have made an unexpected long playoff run. After all, in this league, winning is everything. People will forget about you if you lose.
While the Hawks have a plethora of great role players, like Bogdan Bogdanovic, Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, and Lou Williams, to mention a few, no one will slap you in the face if you say Collins is the team’s second-best player after Trae Young.
Don’t be fooled by Collins’ statistics from last season. It was mostly due to the signings of several dangerous scorers such as Bogdanovic and Gallinari. However, as we all know, statistics don’t tell the whole story. Collins and Young have gotten along swimmingly. He’s a great pick-and-roll player who can basically defend several spots as a mobile big guy.
It’s worth noting that the Hawks were able to break out of their funk after the coaching change. As a result, their regular-season record was not a strong indication of the team’s ability. This is why their playoff campaign took everyone off surprise. In light of this, we may expect the Hawks to have a strong start in 2021-22. Young’s fans will continue to shower him with adulation. Collins will be a part of these talks as well.
Tobias Harris is number two.
Tobias Harris has been in the league since 2011, but it has only been in the past few years that he has gained recognized as one of the league’s best strikers. We can argue that in his final two years with the Detroit Pistons, when he hit just over 40% from downtown, he began to turn heads. After that, he spent two years with the Clippers, where he refined his deep-ball shot. People consider him to be the third star in the Philadelphia 76ers’ lineup, after Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
The thing with Harris is that he’s always working to improve his game. He shot a career-high 51.2 percent from the field last season. He also averaged 3.5 assists per game, which is a new best for him in the NBA. Harris’ performance may continue to improve in the next season.
Given the turmoil surrounding Ben Simmons, Sixers supporters may turn their focus to Harris and recognize his importance to the club. For the first time in Harris’ career, this odd turn of events may lead to an All-Star nomination.
Jerami Grant is number one.
Jerami Grant improved his average to 22.3 points from 12.0 the previous season in his debut season with the Detroit Pistons. In consequence, he was instantly labeled as one of the Pistons’ foundation stones. Cade Cunningham, the first overall selection in 2021, was a wise addition to the squad. He’s a player with a high IQ who can make next-level plays. Cunningham, in summary, is one of those guys who improves everyone around him.
Grant will benefit tremendously from this aspect of Cunningham’s playstyle. Grant is an excellent slasher who can generate his own shots via isolated plays. He always appears to be at the right position at the right moment and knows when to cut. Grant’s averages may rise somewhat as a result of this. It is possible to score 25.0 points each game on average. But, more significantly, the Pistons will most likely win more games than they did before. Grant’s NBA All-Star gene will be recognized by fans and the media.
The NBA draft is one of the most exciting events in the sports world, and for good reason. After all, who wouldn’t want to see the best young players in the world get drafted by the NBA’s best teams? However, while the NBA draft is considered the most prestigious of all prospects in basketball, it is not the most popular event in the game. That honor is reserved for the NBA All-Star game, which is the league’s showcase event of the season. The All-Star game pits the best players from the Eastern and Western conferences against each other.. Read more about nba all-star announcement 2021 and let us know what you think.
