The QB situation in Green Bay is a bit of a mess at the moment, with the team having to use their third-stringer against the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game for a reason. With a handful of veterans in camp, the Packers have a number of roster spots up in the air. That’s not a problem for a veteran in a contract year, but in a preseason game it can’t hurt to get a look at a young player.
The Green Bay Packers’ training camp is a grueling, full contact affair. The Packers put the hopes of their season on the shoulders of a lot of players, and it can be a bruising experience. For some players, that experience is all that’s needed to prove they belong on an NFL roster. Jordan Love is one such player. Love has an NFL pedigree, and he’s been with the Packers for years on the practice squad, but has yet to get a chance on the field.
Jordan Love is a rookie running back for the Green Bay Packers who was drafted in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft. In his first preseason game, he rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown. In his second preseason game, he rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown. In his third preseason game, he rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown. In his fourth preseason game, he rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown. In the fifth preseason game, he rushed for 15 yards and a touchdown. In the sixth preseason game, he rushed for 13 yards and a touchdown. In the seventh preseason game, he rushed for 0 yards and a touchdown. In the eighth preseason game, he rushed for 0 yards and a touchdown. In his first regular season
The Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills will meet in the last week of the preseason in 2021. Aaron Rodgers was never going to play before the Packers’ regular-season opener against the New Orleans Saints, but Green Bay’s three preseason games were an opportunity for second-year quarterback Jordan Love to show he had what it takes to be the team’s franchise quarterback if Rodgers leaves. However, the Utah State product struggled in his preseason debut, was hurt, and missed the team’s next game. The Packers-Bills game will be a test for Love now that he’s well.
Buffalo is set to play its starters for a large part of the game, so Love will no longer be up against a preseason defense. Sean McDermott, the Bills’ head coach, has made a career out of putting pressure on opposition quarterbacks. His system is built on his front four doing so, leaving linebackers and defensive backs to concentrate on coverage. It will be Love’s most difficult challenge as a professional.

In the second week of the preseason, the Packers had two joint practices and a game against the New York Jets, and Love squandered a great chance to confront a tough defensive system. Robert Saleh, the Jets’ head coach, spent the previous four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have topped the league in passing defense for the last two years, and were among the best in terms of passer rating and completion % allowed. During Saleh’s four-year stint with the 49ers, his defense ranked third in the NFL in passing yards allowed.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers stated during a news conference via Packerswire that facing a difficult system would have been a wonderful experience. But, he said, it would be beneficial for Love to get a taste of McDermott’s strategy against the Bills:
“This is fantastic for him.
“Starters, and that Bills defense is active and provides a variety of looks, which will help him.”
Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, discusses Jordan Love’s chance to play the Buffalo Bills.
Jordan Love’s greatest chance to establish himself will come in Green Bay’s game against Buffalo.
According to The Buffalo News, McDermott intends to start quarterback Josh Allen and the bulk of the Bills’ starters in the preseason finale. If Love was unable to demonstrate his progress against the Jets due to an injured throwing shoulder, this is the greatest and last opportunity for him to do it.
Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, and Mario Addison are among the defensive starters for the Bills, as are 2020 first-round selection AJ Epenesa and 2021 first-round pick Greg Rousseau. Tremaine Edmunds, a 2018 first-round pick, has more over 100 tackles in each of his first three seasons in the league, and the 6-foot-5, 250-pound linebacker is also a force in the passing game, with 24 pass breakups and three interceptions in that time. Tre’Davious White, one of the finest corners in the league, leads Buffalo’s secondary, which also has Micah Hyde, a quality veteran safety with 17 career interceptions.
The Bills’ defense is no laughing matter, and if the bulk of their starters play, Love will have to play his greatest game of his career to have any chance of winning.
Love has one more opportunity in the preseason to prove he’s a potential star, and the Buffalo game is it.
Prior to hiring Sean McDermott, the Bills had just two winning seasons in 16 years and had never reached the playoffs.
He’s taken them to the playoffs twice in three years, with two winning seasons, created a great culture, and helped lead one of the NFL’s most stingy defenses.

The last preseason game is, therefore, the final opportunity for any non-starter in the NFL to establish themselves. Love, on the other hand, is a unique situation because of his position with the Green Bay Packers. Love was selected in the first round of the 2020 draft by General Manager Brian Gutekunst, surprising many and possibly igniting the Packers’ feud with Rodgers. Since the day he came in Green Bay, the 22-year-old has been under siege.
Rodgers is expected to depart the club at the conclusion of the 2021 season, thus Love has to demonstrate more growth. He’s showed signs of it in the past, but not consistently. Even in a preseason game, a good performance against one of the league’s top defenses would go a long way toward showing Love has what it takes to be a starting NFL quarterback.
