Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Adventure Game from Bethesda is a brand new title that comes to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this November. We had the chance to see the game at E3 2017 with an early access demo and we’re excited for what’s ahead!
The “skyrim the adventure game board game” is a tabletop role-playing game that was released in September of 2018. It is based on Bethesda’s popular video game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Modiphius Entertainment has teamed together with Bethesda to bring the world of Skyrim to your tables in a new game called The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Adventure Game, which is now available on Gamefound. Skyrim The Adventure Game has now reached its entire funding target (in little over 28 minutes) and has unlocked over 50 stretch goals, which is incredible. If you haven’t supported the campaign yet, there are still a few days left, and if you’re still undecided, we recently had the opportunity to sit down and put the game through its paces, and we’ve got a complete impressions summary right here to help you decide.
Skyrim The Adventure Game is a cooperative game with a solo option, and it includes two major campaigns with each chapter lasting roughly 90 minutes. We got to play a little bit of Chapter 1, and while we didn’t get to see everything the game’s first chapter had to offer, it was enough to get a sense of the main gameplay loop and how the video game’s trademark storytelling and offerings of choice at every turn have been translated to the realm of tabletop.
It’s clear how much of the narrative and storytelling has survived, but what’s more astounding is how it’s been integrated into the primary experience. Small tales are told using Event Cards and Quest Cards in Skyrim, and they may have an influence on the game for both individual players and the group as a whole. For example, I began the game by picking a card that instructed me on where to position my character and why, but it then presented me with two options. Both had me switching cards to continue my story, and if I drew the next Quest card in that chain, that quest will no longer be an option for people who are told to draw that same Quest card (they must draw the next number up as an alternative), so you’re consistently affecting not just your story but everyone else’s as well.
There’s also a desire to keep playing a tale and not allow a failure condition stop you, which comes in numerous forms. Certain quests will provide a talent test and then reveal the following steps for Success or Failure, while others, such as the Just Reth Quest, may spice things up a bit. Reth is a character you encounter in Winterhold, and you must roll particular symbols on the dice to pass. If you pass, you will get certain benefits; but, if you fail, you will have two possibilities. You may either discard their card or ask for their personal tale quest, which will put them in the mix if someone else arrives to town and snatches a quest. They will leave the game forever once you accomplish this quest, thus no one else will be able to engage with them.
Let’s imagine you’re vanquished in a chapter, Skyrim wants you to keep going on. You’ll just skip the remainder of that chapter and go directly into the next one. That means you will make progress, but you will lose out on all of the experience, upgrades, and other rewards that come with going through that chapter, so there is a penalty.
The game’s most complex features are story-driven rather than mechanic-driven, yet combat is nonetheless engaging and multi-layered. To begin the game, you select a character with a unique skill set and weapon, and you’ll loot weapons, money, and equipment as you go. You’ll want to pay attention to the enemy’s weaknesses and vulnerabilities when leveling up your special skills. For my Khajit, it was all about Sneak, which let me dole out more damage numerous times during the game. I also liked how many alternatives I had and how switching paths during a combat was allowed. I had picked up a larger weapon before a fight and it came in helpful unexpectedly, yet I was able to swap back to my dagger from my larger sword using an action and still had an opportunity to accomplish anything on my turn. As a brief aside, the Enchantment and Upgrade card design is fantastic, and I’d love to see other games take Skyrim’s approach and aesthetic in this area.
This emphasis on choice-based narrative draws you in and encourages you to explore all of the game’s features and places, which include dungeons, mines, and ruins, among others. Meanwhile, even if you select a character that specializes in one way or another, you’re not tied into that playstyle. My character was built on speed and stealth, but when the circumstances demanded it, I just charged at full speed with a massive sword and felt like I had a chance. There are plenty of alternatives in towns, and completing missions makes you feel as though you’re getting to know this world on a personal level while simultaneously paying attention to the larger tale being conveyed.
And this is just skimming the surface, since we haven’t even reached the end of the first chapter. If this is any indication of what the entire game will be like, it’s no surprise that it’s quickly become one of my most anticipated games of the year. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a role-playing game developed by Bethesda The Adventure Game embraces the game’s aspects in a new and engrossing manner, ensuring that each player’s tale is unique even if they share the same universe. Skyrim The Adventure Game, when paired with its simplified basic gameplay, provides an experience that both longtime fans and newcomers will undoubtedly enjoy.
